With just over a week left until Steve Jobs takes the stage for the keynote address at this years annual World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, I am thinking about what we might see. After every keynote there is always a short-lived euphoria that results from being inside the reality distortion field followed but a postpartum depression. There are usually two results from a WWDC. Either you are blown away by something that no one knew was coming or you are disappointed because all the crazy rumors did not come true.

I recently read that Apple (formerly Apple Computer) has filed for a trademark for OS X along side its current trademark for Mac OS X™. This is just another step in a methodical move away from the computer industry into the main stream of consumer electronics. Apple no longer sees them as a Computer Hardware or computer software company but as a consumer electronics and media company. Apple did the same thing with our beloved iTunes Music Store once it started selling Movies and Applications.

When trying to devine what may be coming next from Apple it is necessary to look at the absense of information and product releases Apple released a new updated 24" Cinema Display but did not update the 30" monitor. Why not? Apple has not changed the AppleTV hardware in a while despite the updates to the software. What happens when you think about these two things together?

You get an updated 30" monitor with a built-in AppleTV. Is 30" big enough? It is for me. Putting a CPU & hard drive into the TV would make it remarkably like an iMac.

What else is due for a refresh?

In mid July I was trying to buy some Apps or Music from the iTunes Music Store. It seemed like every day I was getting a message that my account had been disabled for security reasons. It was really annoying. I was having to change my password for iTunes every day. It was really annoying. I tracked the problem down to my Apple TV. I had recently updated the software on my Apple TV. There was one small change in the Apple TV software that it now does not allow Apple IDs to contain a space. The space key is not even on the on-screen keyboard.
