168 Hours Until WWDC 2010

images.jpeg

With just over a week left until Steve Jobs takes the stage for the keynote address at this years annual World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, I am thinking about what we might see. After every keynote there is always a short-lived euphoria that results from being inside the reality distortion field followed but a postpartum depression. There are usually two results from a WWDC. Either you are blown away by something that no one knew was coming or you are disappointed because all the crazy rumors did not come true.

Disappointed that I cannot access MobileMe webmail via Safari on iPad

Tagged:

I'm away from home and using my iPad to keep In touch. My only WiFi access is very limited and does not allow basic services like IMAP, SMTP, or VPN -- only web access is allowed. That should not be a problem because I can get my email in Safari by going to me.com -- wrong. All I get are links to information on how to setup my email client. So I'm stuck without MobileMe email.

Why does MobileMe always think I'm coming from Apple Store Japan?

Every time I try to access me.com it tells me that my account has been locked for security reasons. It is really annoying. I have to go and change my password everywhere. During the password change process I get a confirmation screen that offers to send me back to the Apple Store Japan. I've never been to the Apple Store Japan.

Syncing Contacts with Google Contacts

One of the nice features of iTunes/Address Book is the ability to Sync with services like Exchange, Yahoo! and Google in addition to Apple's own MobileMe. I decided to try these services at the risk of really screwing up my Address Book. I have about 700 entries in my address book. I use both groups and smart groups to organize my contacts. I use the notes, related people, and date fields in addition to the more pedestrian fields for name, address and phone number. Any sync scheme that I could use would need to support these features. I also use the picture field.

I got this email from MobileMe. It was a strange non-apology. It was a litany of all the things that they have been working on without any mention of the things that were promised but not yet delivered. This message appears to have been sent out to all MobileMe members.
